Data Privacy Statement for our Website

As of May 2018

The Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin has the mission to get people to talk to each other about religious, cultural, contemporary, political, economic and social issues. We do so by organising public events for which we collect data. We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and explain our approach in the following section.

1. Responsible contact partner

The contact details of the persons in charge are as follows:

Dr. Rüdiger Sachau
Charlottenstr. 53/54
D-10117 Berlin
sachau(at)eaberlin.de
Phone: +49 (0) 30 / 2 03 55-506

Konsistorium der Evangelischen Kirche-Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz

j.kellner(at)ekbo.de

2. Basic principles of data collection

The Ev. Akademie zu Berlin is subject to the data privacy policy of the Evangelical Church in Germany (DSG-EKD) as well as its IT Security Regulation. Pursuant to section 2a of the Data Protection Act of the EKD, we pursue the principle of data minimisation and data economy.

When you register for an event, we need your personal data. As a matter of principle, this data is not passed on to third parties with the exception of legitimate audits by our grant donors.

3. For how long is your data stored?

We process and store your personal data as long as necessary to fulfil our statutory tasks and contractual obligations. This means that we have to store your data in the framework of legal storage periods (audits, tax inspections, principles of proper accounting) up to ten years.

4. Automatically collected data | logging

When you access our website, we generally capture and store the following information automatically transmitted by your browser:

  • Browser type and browser version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL (the site you visited prior to our site)
  • Host name of the accessing computer (IP address)
  • Time of the server request.

For storage purposes beyond the duration of the access to our website, IP addresses are kept in an anonymous form and used exclusively to improve the content and functionality of the website. This data will not be merged with data from other data sources and no creation of person-related user profiles in any other way takes place.

5. Hosting

We operate the website www.eaberlin.de. Major parts of our website provide information to the reader and may be used without giving personal data. The website of the Ev. Akademie zu Berlin is hosted by the Wegewerk company (www.wegewerk.de). For this purpose, an agreement for contract data processing exists. When registering for an event, you are referred to an encrypted site of the company EDV-Kommunikation Strassner (SSL encryption: the address line in the browser changes from http:// to https://). A website with SSL encryption guarantees that data you transferred to us cannot be read or changed by third parties. Despite this security measure, we must draw your attention to the fact that data transmission on the internet may have security gaps. Absolute protection of data against third-party access is technically impossible.

6. Use of cookies

Our website uses cookies. Cookies are small text files that are saved on your computer and stored by your browser. They do not do any damage to your computer and do not contain viruses. They simply make our offer more user-friendly, effective and secure.  Cookies make it possible to recognise your browser next time you visit us.

Most of the cookies we use are so called ‘session cookies’. They are automatically deleted after closure of your browser program. You can set your browser to notify you once cookies are sent or you can deactivate the functionality storing the cookie. If you deactivate cookies, it may happen that the use of our website and the services offered is only possible to a limited degree. External websites that are included by frames may, under certain conditions, also place cookies. These cookies must also be barred from access and can be rejected by you.

7. Usage analysis

Our website uses the open source web analysis service Matomo (formerly ‘Piwik’). Matomo is operated on a server by the company Wegewerk (see item 5). Matomo generates two cookies. If you agree to cookies being used, the data on your use of our website generated by the cookie is stored together with other usage data on the Wegewerk server. These statistics help improve the website’s usability and the usefulness of its content. We store these statistics for several years. To protect your identity, the second half of your IP address is deleted upon saving. We are not able to assign this data to a specific person.

GoogleMaps is integrated to be able to map a core function of our offer, the localization of the Protestant academy’s venues, with reasonable effort. We think this interest justifies the technically required data transfer to implement this function.
