Vor 100 Jahren brach in Europa Krieg aus. Leid und Schuld bestimmten das Miteinander der Völker. Aber es wuchs auch eine Sehnsucht nach Frieden. Die Kirchen Europas unterstützten den Nationalismus und wurden mitschuldig. Aber sie begannen auch, Brücken der Versöhnung zu bauen. Aus der Gabe des Friedens mit Gott entwickelte sich ihr Versöhnungsdienst.
Europa hat Frieden gefunden und bleibt in der Verpflichtung, sich gegen die „alten Kriege“, etwa in Afrika, und die „neuen“, wie Wirtschafts- und Cyberkriege, weltweit einzusetzen.

War broke out 100 years ago. It turned into the First World War; the Second World War followed. Suffering and guilt determined the co-operation of the nations in Europe. But there was also a growing yearning for peace and the will to shape Europe as a space of peace.
The Churches were themselves caught up in the war history, supported nationalism and so bear their share of guilt and responsibility. But they also began to build bridges of reconciliation. It is from the gift of peace with God that they developed their mission of reconciliation.
It was a contribution that helped Europe find peace and it remains an obligation to stand up against the old-style wars that we see for example in Africa and the new economic and cyber wars worldwide.

Die Begegnungstagung der GEKE lebt von den Beiträgen ihrer TeilnehmerInnen aus vielen Ländern Europas. JedeR TeilnehmerIn wird herzlich gebeten, Fotos und Berichte zu Gedenkstätten des Ersten Weltkriegs mitzubringen und im eigenen Land nach Aktivitäten des Friedens zu recherchieren, um diese Projekte bei der Tagung vorzustellen. Auf Wunsch hilft das Büro der Europäischen Bibeldialoge bei der Gestaltung.
Aus den Teilnehmerberichten und Bildern wollen wir im Anschluss der Tagung eine Ausstellung zusammenstellen, die in ganz Europa und im Internet gezeigt werden soll.

The European Bible Dialogues and Encounter Conferences of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) thrive due to the participants’ contribution. Every participant is requested to bring pictures of places of remembrance of the First World War, as well as do some research on peace projects in his or her home country and introduce these to the group at the conference. Our Berlin staff is happy to offer assistance for the presentation if needed.
We hope to gather all contributions into an exhibition so that after the conference may be seen all over Europe and online.
